Office Depot allows 20 ink cartridges to be turned in each month for $2 in rewards per month. (How do I get 20 ink cartridges a month – Read the Book – The Frugal Factor ). So, that is $40 in rewards. BUT – you only get rewards equal to what you have spent in that quarter of the year.
So, if you BUY batteries you will get back 100% in rewards for buying the batteries. You will also get back all the money spent again of you turned in ink cartridges. So, if you turn in 20 cartridges and buy 5 packs of batteries $8 x 5 = $40, you should get back $80 in rewards.
I did this several times last year when they offered items with 100% back in rewards. Using the rewards I carefully purchased items and then resold them turning the rewards into cash. More details are in The Frugal Factor.
